Highfield Woolshed in Waiau was constructed in 1877 and is the oldest surviving woolshed in the Hurunui district. The structure is listed with Heritage New Zealand as a significant heritage place and comprises a central bay and 12 shearing stands.
The historic Woolshed was damaged in the Kaikoura earthquakes and DPA Architects was appointed as heritage architects for the proposed remedial work and maintenance to the building. Work has commenced on the temporary propping of the building allowing new foundations to be laid.
