A striking example of Gothic Revival Architecture, the Supreme Court Building (now the Auckland High Court) dates to 1868. DPA Architects completed the structural upgrade and refurbishment of the building.
The building reveals the importance placed on 'law and order' during the mid-nineteenth century and was said at the time to have been the first public building in the region constructed of long-lasting materials. The carvings on the main façades depict British and Māori leaders and dignitaries of the time.
This project was the recipient of the Carter Holt Harvey Heritage Award in 1991.
